Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is working hard to build a vibrant community that is at the forefront of economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability.


Members of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation grant power to an elected Chief and Council, which form the political arm for Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, to govern the land and property of the membership. Chief and Council deal with governance and policy issues in the community.

Supported by the administrative function, the Chief and Councilís responsibilities include program and service delivery, financial management, policy development, and planning and control systems. They negotiate with the federal government and work to increase federal funding and bring new money and programs into the community.

The Chief and Councilors were elected in 2013. The First Nation officials normally serve a three year term with the next election scheduled for 2019. Band Members who wish to learn more about the Bandís electoral process should contact the Band Office for more information.

The website has been designed to meet the needs of our membership by providing accurate and up-to-date information to you, the Community members. This site was designed to encourage community members to become actively involved in our community, serving to improve our lifestyle. Active participation by members of our community will continue a long tradition of community service and socially responsible practices. I also believe that involvement in our community will contribute to the vibrant culture that is Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is a dynamic community that is well positioned for the future. As we develop the vision for Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation's future, we celebrate its past, and embrace the present. Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is guided by the concept of stewardship. We understand that our decisions today will have a lasting impact on tomorrow and so each decision that impacts the community must be carefully considered. We are working diligently to provide residents and future generations an outstanding quality of life. The theme that guides the leadership of the community is Protection, Preservation and Progress. Protection, preservation of treaty rights and progress in meeting the needs of the community.
